Frequently asked questions
On https://www.krakenlyrics.com/search your can search for song lyrics, artist names and albums. By default we search in all three databases for you. But you can choos to focus on only one or two if you like.
Phrase Search
If you want to search for exactly the text you type in the input, put "the text in quotes". Putting it in "quotes" forces the search engine to look for exactly that string. So for example, searching for "i know i stand in line" (with the quotes) will return a different result than searching for i know i stand in line (without the quotes).
Wildcard search
Are you not exactly sure about the word(s) in a lyrics text, a song title, artist name or albums name? Use a wildcard* character. For example searching for love is different than searching for love*. And free is different from free*.
Live search
Be default the live search is on, but you can turn the live search off. When the live search is on, we automatically search for you in the background while you type. So the search result is updating live as you enter text in to the input field.
On https://www.krakenlyrics.com/artists you can browse our database of artists. Initially, on the top level page you are presented with an alphabet. The alphabet boxed in with the title "What does your favorite artists' name start with?". This represents the first character of the artist name you want to find. When you click a letter, new alphabet options become available.
Directly below the alphabet is the result list. On the top level page this is simply a dump of the entire artists database (more than fifty thousand artists). Your goal is to reduce this list size by narrowing your search with the letters in the alphabeth. For each time you click a letter, you greatly reduce the size of the result list. For example clicking on M reduces the result list to something like three thousand (no longer fifty thousand).
Lets say you first click on M. It will show you all artists with a name that starts on M. But it doesn't stop there. You can narrow the options further. Lets say you are looking for Madonna, the next letter you click on would be A. This will give you a new list of all artists with a name starting on MA. Then you continue to MAD by clicking on D, then O, and eventually you will end up with such a small result that the artist you look for is there.
Talking of result lists. You can set the page result list size between 10 to 1000 hits. Just click the to number in the pagination above or below the artists result list.

We get mos of our lyrics from our licensing partner Lyricfind. These lyrics have been quality assured by the lyricfind QA team, and they are presented with a badge: . These lyrics can not be changed, as they are delivered to us from a third party.
If you see a text that does not have the Lyricfind badge, you must contact the lyrics text maintainer and have them change it. Perhaps they can allow you to change the text. If not you can submit a new version of the song text. It will appear as a new text on KrakenLyrics. See also
Unique to KrakenLyrics is the Skipper lyrics admin APP. This is a system we build for users to create and maintain lyrics collections. Each collection is controlled solely by the user who creates it. Or different users can collaborate on the same collections by invitation.
A lyrics collection can represent any type of meaning the maintainer wants. Fore example, you could make a song album of lyrics such as PartyNextDoor (2013) (EP). You could also make a collection of lyrics found in a single, or a musical with different version of the plays and songs. Or, perhaps you want to make a list of the songs in a particular event, such as the Eurovision Song Contest.
This is also a great place to create and maintain a lyrics archive with lyrics from an artist. Do do so just name the collection the name of the artist, for example Britney Spears, and submit her lyrics there. One of the fine benefits of this is that you will be the only person in charge of the content of the collection, unlik our automagically maintainted .
The possibillities are many, and the way you use Krakens lyrics collection solution is entirely up to you. Learn more about managing lyrics collections and albums on

This is perhaps our most common question: How do I add or remove lyrics in a particular artists archive? The short answer is:You cannot directly make or maintain an artists lyrics archive on KrakenLyrics.
KrakenLyrics is built differently from many other lyrics websites. In particular we don't manually maintain Neither do the users / submitters / maintainers on Skipper.
When you submit lyrics, you are required to provide an artist or band name. Based on this input, our system automatically identifies the artist directory where the song will be placed. In other words you cannot directly manipulate an artist archive on KrakenLyrics, only indirectly through the songs you submit or change. But so does every other user of Skipper.
In this way, the artist archives on KrakenLyrics is in effect the result of the collaborative effort of all users of the site. This method can some times result in duplicate listings, but that is a situation we have other solutions for handling.
No single person maintains an artists lyrics archive on KrakenLyrics. But the system does so itself based on the sum of all users input. The artists lyrics archives on KrakenLyrics grow / shrink / expand and change over time, all automagically.
Now, this doesn't mean thath you cannot create your own collection of songs from an artist or band. For that we have created a unqiue system for our users to maintain When you sign up you are also configured with your in which you are the only one in control of the content.
On https://www.krakenlyrics.com/u we list all active users of the site. This means people who have signed up to submit, organize and maintain lyrics and archives.
All your data and contributions on KrakenLyrics will be listed under KrakenLyrics/u/YourUsername — So this is a totally self controlled place for your user. You can look at it as an alternative to making

The HTML version and the APP version of KrakenLyrics looks fairly similar.

The APP and the HTML version of KrakenLyrics represent the exact same content, but different functionality. They are intended for slightly different use.
We made this so that KrakenLyrics could be the quickest and most powerful lyrics service on the internet. Basically, the HTML version is for one page mobile requests. And the App version is for the people who want to use and explore more of what Krakenlyrics has to offer.
If you enter a page on krakenlyrics, e.g. A-Ha directly, and only view that particular page. You are served the HTML version. You can also browse several pages on the HTML version. But when you keep using the site, you will eventually launch the APP version.
The APP version is much quicker, and consumes much less data over your connection, than the HTML version. But there is a launch cost, both in time and data-usage. It is not much, only around a MegaByte, but the HTML version is something like 10 times smaller.
Therefor, for mobile users, who do a quick in and out of the site, we use the HTML version. And for users who want to use KrakenLyrics more, should use the APP version.
The APP version also offer more functionality, such as and the different color modes. You find the Dark Mode switch and all the color modes in the footer and top right menu on all pages.
You can switch between the APP and HTML version by using the link in the footer. Most pages has this option, but not all. For example, the Search and Browse always try to use the APP, and you won't see the HTML link in the footer on those pages. That's because browsing and searching typically requires a lot of requests to the server (many page views), and so it is much better connection wise to use the app.
To know if you are on the APP or HTML version of a page on KrakenLyrics, scroll to the footer and look for the HTML or the APP link under Services. If you see the HTML link, it means you are using the APP version and vica versa. If you dont see any link, it means you are using the APP version (the page you are viewing doesn't encourage you to use HTML version).
The lists on the Front Page is currently only updated each time we launch a new version of KrakenLyrics. That is approximately two to three times per week. We are working to have them update more frequently, but this is part of a bigger job in progress.
When you use The APP, and navigate to the front page, the lists are always up to date. You do always see the newest content with the APP.
When you submit or correct lyrics on https://www.krakenlyrics.com/skipper make sure you use the app version of www.krakenlyrics.com if you want to see your data show on on the front page right away. If you use the HTML version, you will not see it until the manual update (by the oprators of krakenlyrics) has been placed.
We chose KrakenLyrics as the name of the website because it stands out. It is easier to remember than a generic "DanceLyrics" / "UltimateLyrics" / "SuperLyrics" web site name.
And it gives the site a theme to brand, gather around and focus on. In addition Kraken is a Power Creature and Energy Monster — which can be handy when you are on the stage trying to perform.

No❗️ Not even close. If that's what you think about Kraken then you're in for a surprise. The Lock Ness monster is cosy in comparison.
Kraken is a legendary, mythical, nordic sea monster. Wikipedia explains it well.
KrakenLyrics used to be mp3lyrics.org before it became mp3lyrics.com before it became KrakenLyrics.com
In early 2004, actually in January 2004, we made Mp3Lyrics.org — it was a huge success and eventually we bought the domain mp3lyrics.com some years later. It too was a pretty awesome and much used service after we switched over. However, the nature of the internet quickly changed. People moved mostly over to mobile, and new technology transformed the landscape of how to run and maintain such a service.
For years the Mp3Lyrics.com service was mostly a passive website, just sitting there serving lyrics. There were no updates or maintenance or enhancements. Hence the popularity and traffic declined. Meanwhile, we the operators, were planning a complete redesign of the entire solution. But this took a long time because the job was so massive.
During the comprehensive job of switching the codebase, redisigning and re-inventing the behavior of mp3lyrics we also renamed it to KrakenLyrics. The main reason for this was that the mp3 part of mp3lyrics was confusing. This site is only about the lyrics to songs, not about music.
Not until christmas eve 2018 did we have enough of a new solution to launch version one of KrakenLyrics. This was kind of a first draft, and an emergency solution. It stayed on line for about one year, when we were able to launch version two. It is the newest version that you are seeing right now.
